What is a mini-led display?

Mini-LED technology offers precise control over local dimming zones, resulting in improved contrast ratios and picture quality.

Enhanced brightness and deeper blacks make mini-LED displays ideal for outdoor applications subjected to direct sunlight.

Suitable for installations on yachts, cars, motorcycles, and other outdoor settings where high brightness LCD is required.

Mini-LED displays deliver superior visual experiences in bright, sunlit conditions, ensuring optimal viewing clarity.

Their durability and performance make them well-suited for demanding environments, providing exceptional display quality even in challenging outdoor settings.

Cons of Traditional LCDs

Pros of Mini-led displays

with traditional LCD as backlight
with Mini-LED as backlight
  • Traditional LCDs typically have low transmittance levels (around 5 – 10% per layer), leading to poor color saturation when displaying dark or black images due to the backlight’s high brightness.
  • Additionally, higher power consumption in traditional LCDs can cause overheating issues and result in a shorter lifespan.
  • Our new LED module complements the LCD by serving as the backlight.
  • When displaying lighter-colored images (white or gray), the mini LED backlight enhances brightness.
  • Conversely, for darker-colored images (black or brown), the mini LED backlight dims or emits no light, resulting in deeper blacks and stronger contrast.
  • This dynamic backlighting mechanism ensures that dark areas appear darker and light areas appear brighter, ultimately delivering clearer images with superior contrast.

Local dimming:
Based on customers’ needs, the number of LEDs placed in each area varies, ranging from 1 to 16 LEDs in each zone.

  • Determine how many blocks are needed based on the size of the LCD.
  • One board can have from 1×8=8, 2×8=16,… up to 8*48=384 zones.
  • If the LCD is large, two boards can also be connected in series.
  • Up to 4 boards can be connected in series with a total of 1536 bits.

  • With regional dimming, the effective brightness of each area can be adjusted to up to 4096 levels.
  • By converting the RGB color scale of each zone into a brightness level, the television can adjust the amount of light emitted by each zone to present different brightness levels and achieve better color contrast.
  • The color contrast can be from 1:10 to as high as 1:1,000,000

  • When the LCD is black or dark, local dimming can effectively reduce the brightness or turn off the LED to save unnecessary energy.
  • Depending on the color of the content displayed, the energy can be effectively saved by 30 – 50%.

  • Driving method of an LED display uses a dynamic scanning technique, specifically the 1/8 DUTY SCAN scanning method.
  • Most of the time the LED light is only 1/8 of the time, and other ZONEs are also scanning and the brightness is only partially illuminated, the overall Power consumption is quite low.

Given the fact that the driving method is using the 1/8 DUTY SCAN scanning method and most of the time the LEDs are partially illuminated, the overall power current and power consumption would be much lower, and the lifespan of the LEDs would be extended. MTBF reaches more than 50,000 hours

  • Outdoor advertising screens typically have a brightness of 1000 to 1500 nits to improve visibility under sunlight. However, increasing the backlight’s brightness can lead to low color saturation and high power consumption, requiring additional cooling mechanisms. Local dimming Mini LED backlight LCD modules can address these issues by enhancing brightness, reducing power consumption, and prolonging the product’s lifespan.
  • Local dimming Mini LED backlight technology enhances brightness while reducing power consumption.
  • Provides up to 3000 nits of brightness, which is 3 times higher than traditional outdoor advertising screens.
  • Mini LED backlight LCD modules have a longer lifespan due to the low heat generation, which reduces the need for additional cooling mechanisms such as fans.
