Upgrade Edge-Lit LCM to Mini-LED FALD by Changing Just Two Components
Keep your existing LCD panel, optical films, and housing exactly as they are. Replace only the backlight source and driver board to give a standard edge-lit module full-array local dimming capability.
Edge-Lit Backlighting Has a Ceiling on Brightness and Contrast
In an edge-lit structure, LEDs sit along the side of a light guide plate, and light is diffused before it reaches the LCD. Overall brightness and contrast are capped by the number of LEDs and the light guide plate design, with no ability to dim by zone based on image content. In bright outdoor environments or high-end display applications, this limitation shows up directly in visibility and image quality.
The Retrofit: Backlight and Driver Board
The LCD panel, optical films, and metal frame stay untouched. The entire upgrade comes down to two systems.
Backlight Retrofit
Remove the light guide plate and side-mounted LED strip, replacing them with a direct-lit Mini-LED backlight board. LEDs are arranged in an array, configurable from 1 to 16 LEDs per zone depending on requirements, enabling true independent zone dimming.
Driver System Upgrade
The original LED driver board only switches the backlight on or off as a whole. It's replaced with a dimming-algorithm-enabled driver board that simultaneously drives the LCD panel and the Mini-LED backlight board, calculating brightness per zone in real time based on image content.
